Retirement Gift Subway Style

As most of you know I work a part-time job at a Juvenile Justice Center.
This is where adolescent kids
go to Court, meet with Probation Officers, and also serve time in Detention.

I am a firm believer that things happen for a reason
and also that certain people enter your life for a reason.
Many times when a new adventure begins you don't have any idea why things happen the way they do or even why they are happening.

This theory is very true for me and how I ended up with this job.

Last week I attended a Retirement Luncheon for our Court Deputy, Terry.
It was a hard and very emotional day for me.

Why, you ask?

I am not a huge fan of change!
(But there are many others reasons to, keep reading.)

Despite my saddness and to show my support and also to give him a gift that I hope he enjoys  I attended the luncheon.
Also I wanted him know how much he means to me so I made this...

Terry worked for the County for 22 1/2 years.
And if my memory is correct for the Juvenile Justice Center for approx. 11 years.

He was our escort when we would go and make our home visits to the kids that were on Probation.
I always felt safe whenever I was with him.  I knew that I was his first priority.
It was with him that we put people in the County Jail, we stopped and arrested people that shouldn't be driving, we responded to accidents at high rates of speed, and it was with him that I first encountered an emotional break-down when I discovered that things happen that are out of our hands.  Things happen that we don't like, but sometimes you have to do what is right, even when you have to remove kids from their homes and families when the living conditions are not healthy or appropriate.  It was on this very night that when things were all said and done and the smoke had cleared, he gave me a hug and let me cry for awhile when nobody would see.
(Because, in this job, we are not seen as real humans with real feelings or emotions.)

I'm not saying that we didn't have some Wild and Crazy times, but they were always a lot of fun.
Which for the most part we can laugh at look back wih fond memories.
Whenever I tell stories about this job, Terry is in almost ALL of them.

He also holds a special place in my heart because after my Dad passed away, Terry stepped up to the plate.  Every morning when I got to the office he would ask me how I was doing.
My response varied every time.
One morning in particular I couldn't even answer that simple question.
But, he didn't turn and leave me alone,
he simply offered his shoulder yet again and I shed some more tears.
He simply understood.

Thank you Terry for all you have done, work related and otherwise.
I wish you the best and I hope that retired life treats you well.
You will me missed by me for many reasons and I will always consider you a great Deputy and my Friend!

Thank You!

Our Family Takes a Utah Vacation

If you noticed from my previous post I mentioned that my family recently went on a
 VACATION!!!
It was only for a weekend and we didn't go far, but it was just what we needed.

"The Hubby" had been working some very long days so it seemed like we hadn't really seen him leading up to the time when we left.  Also for those that don't know our family has been super sick this winter.
We put pens to paper and realized that we spent as much money when we had "Baby Girly #2" as we spent on Dr. visits!!!
(Ugh...That wasn't a sad realization for us!)
In fact our "Oldest Girly" had her Tonsils and Adnoiods out and Tubes put in her ears this winter.
Which has made a huge difference for her.
(So grateful for modern medicine & practices.)

I'm sure you are all dying to know where we went and for those of you that hadn't either talked to me, went with me, or I was lucky enough to meet up, we went to...

Salt Lake City UT

Our first stop was Hogle Zoo.

My In-Laws meet up with us at the zoo and vacaid with us.
It was lots of to share that time with them.
The weather was perfect and "The Girlies" loved it!
The weather was great, it wasn't super busy,
and we even got to see a baby elephant, giraffe, and lots of little monkeys.

After the Zoo we went to The Cheesecake Factory.
It was the first time for any of us to eat at a Cheesecake Factory, all I can say was
It was to to die for good!
I highly recommend it if you haven't eaten there and if you have go again for us!

From there we had to stop at BUILD A BEAR
"Girly #1" got a Kitty (Sparkles) & "Baby Girly" got a Bear (Bubbles)
They loaded up with Clothes, Shoes, Ipod, and Stollers for each one,
oh and they also got to pick a smell so each of them smell like strawberries.
At first I thought yuck, but it smells so Yummy!

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in West Valley UT

It had an awesome water park called Grins & Finns.
"Baby Girly" enjoyed time on the slide and "Girly #1" made some new friends.

They also test drove a car while shopping at the mall ~ Ha!!!

We also were able to visit with some friends of ours from way back, it is always like things never change between us.  In fact she knows more about me than anybody and she still talks to me.
Isn't that what true friends are for?!?
The Hubby teases me and says that we are only complete when we are together.  But when we are together, Watchout...cuz you two are trouble!!
I will forever be grateful for our friendship!
I only wish we were closer.

We also shopped at Cabelas
(if you know "The Hubby" and my Father In-Law you know why that was a must.)
IKEA, Tai Pan Trading, and the Outlet Stores in Lehi UT.

Like I mentioned it wasn't a huge trip or a bank breaker.
It was a nice, simple, easy getaway with my family.
We didn't have to worry about work or the stresses of everyday life.

I hope that we can make this at least a yearly experience, because sometimes you just need to get away!!!

Hope you enjoy time with your family this weekend!

(This is my Handsome Hubby and Baby Girl.)

I have a TON of photos to share and I will in a couple of days.
I want to know who can guess where we went.

Hope you also had a relaxing, fun weekend.

Restoration Hardware Knock-Off Clock

When I first seen this clock on Pinterest.

It was love at first site!
(You have to agree right?!?)
But...Then I seen the price and another one similar at Restoration Hardware

Again, the price was enough to scare me right away.  But I loved the Design, the Size, and the Art it added to the room.  Not only is it funtional, but it serves a purpose as well!
I knew I had to have one, but without the hefty price tag.  So I set out to DIY one by myself.

The Hubs knew I was looking and trying to come up with ideas of how to accomplish this project and one day while he was at LOWES he found this.  It is a round 36" table top.  Yep, 3 feet across!!  He convinced me it was something that we could use as the base I just had to paint it to my liking and he would help me with the rest.

Table Top (LOWES)
They also have these in other smaller sizes.

So, I just started painting.
You have to imagine that there really isn't any brown underneath the black strokes.  I wasn't sure if this project was going to work so I didn't take photos along the way of the big clock.  I just randomly put black on the blank wood.  I didn't do anything to it before I started painting.  I just jumped in with both feet.  I wanted the untreated wood to show through for added character.

(In fact I loved the outcome so much, this one, which measures approx. 18" is in my work office.)

Then, I randomly added some cream paint over the black and in some places I rubbed the colors together with  a paper towel to get a Distressed Look.  You can start to see it taking form.  With these steps you have to let your inner child loose and simply have fun.

I tend to over do things and the Hubs came around at the perfect time and voiced his opionion, and told me to,

"Stop Painting you are going to have too much going on".

Which I'm glad he did or I would've kept going and probably ended up covering up too much of the natural wood color.

This is the vinyl piece I designed for it.  This has been seperated from the backing and I'm just getting ready to apply it to the clock.  So here you are looking at it from the sticky/back side.

This is the vinyl laid on the clock with the application tape still on.  A good rule of thumb is to have the center hole drill before you even start painting so you can smooth out any imperfections.  The center hole also helps for placement when you apply the vinyl decal.

I have to mention here, that with the big clock I had to use 2 different decals because of the size, but with the uneven paint technique, you don't even see where the vinyl isn't one whole piece.

Almost finished...

I didn't design the vinyl with the center removed, so I simply took a utility knife and removed that piece of the decal so I could put the clock mechanism in place.

I purchased the Clock Hands and Mechanism from Klokit
The have a large selection of hands in different lengths and I felt their prices were very reasonable.

FINISHED!!!

This clock is a  Monster!
Since it is also made out of wood it is Very, Very Heavy!!

It looks great in our Living Room so it is one of the first things you seen when you walk in our Front Door.

It also satisfies the Purpose, Size, and Art that I set out to acheive!

I couldn't be Happier!!

Thanks for stopping by!!
Please let me know if you have any questions!
The vinyl decal will soon be available for purchase in my Etsy Store and as always available in any size needed.

Pantry Glass Door with Wheat - Vinyl Wall Art, Graphics & Lettering

I recently had a customer search me out and find my ETSY store.

He had the request for a Pantry Sticker to go on his glass door in his kitchen.
At first I thought, that can't be too hard of a request to fill, so I eagerly said YES!!
(Which, keep in mind, I sometimes take off too much than I can handle.  Yes, me.)

He forwarded me some images and they were similar to the designs you see when the design has been etched on the door.  Seeing the images and the details I started to panic.
(I never want to disappoint a customer after I have already promised I would deliver.)

But after some trial and error.  I finally got it right and met his approval.

YEAH!!!

He was also kind enough to send me a picture and gave me permission to share with you.

I love those projects that you are so proud of  in the end but in the beginning you start to doubt yourself and think, Maybe I can't do this.  But, you push those thoughts aside and keep on truckin'.  This was one of them for me and I think it looks FABULOUS!!!

Thanks for stopping by!!
